There are plenty of solid cheap tooth whitening options available to consumers today. How cheap you want to go is completely up to you. Obviously, cheap is a relative word and you can find whitening products in almost every price range. The good news is that no matter what your definition of cheap may be, there’s a smile brightener for that! Even if your starting price is free. As a matter of fact, one of the most effective things you can do for whiter teeth: quitting smoking may even make you money in the long run.
Cheap tooth whitening option number one involves making changes in your diet and your habits. First, stop smoking if you smoke. Second, stop eating foods that lead to stained teeth. Even chewing tobacco can stain teeth so if you do this, it’s time to cut the ties on that habit as well. Stop drinking coffee, tea, and red wine. These drinks all lead to potential stains on your teeth. You should also eliminate blueberries, beets, tomato sauce, soy sauce, and popsicles. These foods and habits will all leave your teeth stained and yellowed over time. Cut them out now and watch how fast the brightness of your smile returns.
When it comes to cheap tooth whitening home remedies it doesn’t get much cheaper than baking soda. You can use this in addition to or instead of your regular toothpaste. For the sake of fresh breath in addition to white teeth it’s a good idea to go with the in addition to option. It’s important that you not avail yourself of this option too frequently. Despite the amazing whitening properties of baking soda it can also be very damaging to your teeth when over utilized.
Let’s face it. When compared to the cost of an in-office whitening treatment, almost any kit you can purchase over the counter or even in the dentist’s office to take home is a cheap tooth whitening alternative. The general rule of the thumb, with the possible exception of baking soda, is that the more expensive kits deliver better results than cheaper moth rinses and toothpastes. This not an all or nothing proposition though. Start with the less expensive options for whitening teeth and work your way up. Another option is that you could save your money for special occasions and elect for more invasive and effective tooth whitening treatments on these special moments.

Once upon a time, in a land not-so far away, there were people with bad teeth. I could make a joke about England of the seventies, but rather, I will save my British friends some embarrassment and stick to fact that at home teeth whitening products used to be non-existent on the shelves of your local drugstore. They may have had toothpastes that claimed to whiten teeth, but those were a bit more expensive; the only way someone could get whiter teeth was to visit the dentist for some esoteric product that the dentist would charge a small fortune for.
Not anymore. Thanks to FDA approval of at-home teeth whitening, we now have ready access to Do-It-Yourself whiteners that can be done without a dentist. This has so revolutionized the practice of making your teeth white that some dentists offer deep discounts on, or even free initial treatments to draw new patients to his/her practice. You can even order free trial supplies and samples of such products as Extreme Whitener, TeethID Pro, and Idol White.
Of course, with ordering products or services on the internet, there is a danger of being scammed. There are unscrupulous business persons online that try to scam you out of your hard-earned money. This is why we started this site; to give you, our loyal readers who would like to see their teeth whiter, a fair and honest review of teeth whiteners on the internet and in the brick-and-mortar drugstore shelves. The law in the United States says that when a person sells a product over the internet, they must put their terms and conditions on the site. This is of the utmost importance. If you do not see a link to the “Terms and Conditions” or “T&C” or anything else that would indicate the terms of your purchase. This is key to determining if the product is a scam or not. If they do not include their terms and conditions, DON’T give them your credit card information. Once you’ve found the information, check them out. It’s not exactly the most enjoyable reading in the world, but it will tell you, up front, everything you need to know.

Teeth Whitener Strips are great if you want to whiten your smile by just a few shades. Some manufacturers say that you can get results within seven days, and have noticeably whiter teeth in 2 weeks. If you wish to whiten your teeth drastically, you may want to consider a gel/tray system or perhaps going to the dentist.
Pros
- They are a simple, home based method that works rather well for medium improvement on teeth whiteness. They are easy to used and will whiten teeth without requiring a trip to the dentist’s office.
- Teeth whitening strips are inexpensive. Two weeks worth of strips will cost close to $40.
- They are far more discreet than a teeth whitening tray and allow you to whiten while you are at work or if you are on the go. They may interfere with normal activities, but they will not interfere nearly as much as having a molded tray stuck in your mouth.
Cons
- If you have sensitive teeth or other oral ailments, you should be cautious when deciding to use teeth whitener strips. Any teeth bleaching product can make your teeth more sensitive, the right product will simply make the sensitivity less painful than the excruciating pain of others.
- While strips conform better to the mouth than certain one-size-fits-all teeth whitening trays, teeth whitening strips may not conform the best to the shape of the mouth. Also, it doesn’t get into the crevices between teeth. It’s like if you have a fence, and you white wash the front of the fence, but leave the crevices in between and the backs dingy, you may end up with a funny looking fence.
- Strips don’t have the whitening power of a gel/tray system, so they are only for medium improvement of your teeth’s whiteness.
So, with all this in mind, decide whether or not you would want to whiten your teeth with a teeth whitener strip system for yourself, or ask a dentist for advice.

A dentist’s office is generally a great place to get your teeth whitened. More likely than not, you know he is going to use a good product and not cut corners when it comes to laser teeth whitening. After all, not only is his reputation at stake, but his license is too. When you think about it, you are paying not only for the materials, but also for a great smile as well.
However, the cost is a great deterrent to visiting the dentist for teeth whitening. Many insurance plans regard this as cosmetic and will not pay for your visit. The cost, which is often 100% out of pocket, can be as much as $2000. Also, one’s natural fear of sitting back in the dentist’s chair with a light shined in one’s face for an hour can also be unnerving. Finally, it’s just a hassle to take time off of work or school to go to the dentist’s office for a whitening session. It may be just an hour or so, but it can really cut into your day if this is the only time available to have your teeth whitened.
That’s why there is another option: in-home laser teeth whitening. While it is not for everyone, if it does work for you, then you can purchase a tool called Zoom or BriteSmile that uses light to activate the natural properties of your teeth to whiten them. There are some issues with teeth sensitivity.
The two main competitors for at home light activated teeth whitener actually merged in 2006, when Zoom Laser System’s parent company bought Britesmile. However, Britesmile has continued to maintain a strong brand recognition, with Britesmile spas for teeth whitening.
If you have questions, your dentist may be able to take a look at your medical records and make suggestions about whether or not at-home teeth whitener is for you. It could save you a bundle of money and hassle over going to the dentist’s office.

Teeth Whitening trays are clear plastic trays in which the user puts a bleaching gel, which is generally a solution of 10% carbamide peroxide whitener or hydrogen peroxide whitener, and the user places them over the teeth for several hours, or overnight as the case may be. Dentist offices often give them to patients, where the tray is custom fitted to cover the user’s teeth snugly. In terms of bleaching, dentists often recommend trays more than any other method of bleaching.
Teeth Whitener Trays also often come with syringes to insert the right amount of the teeth whitening gel evenly over the bottom and top of your tray. These syringes are generally not “sharps” and won’t cause any harm. Just fill the syringe the the recommended dose of teeth whitening gel and there you have it.
There are some disadvantages to using a teeth whitener tray system as opposed to strips, pens, or light activated whitening systems. First of all, the trays are cumbersome and interfere with normal activities, more so than strips or pens. They must be worn for anywhere between 20 minutes to several hours, during which you cannot eat, drink, or talk. In most work environments, these obviously cannot be applied, so it is necessary to do so while you are at home. Second, the gels can make a mess if they are not cared for properly. A friend of mine slipped a tube of whitening gel in his back pocket before a flight, because he had already checked his bags and his carry-on was full. He inserted the gel while he was waiting for his plane. Well, he sat down and there went his gel all over the seat and the back of his pants!
Since a vast majority of tray whitening procedures are done at home without dentist supervision, one must make sure that the solution is not only safe, but effective. Ask your dentist when you are considering purchasing a whitening product. Then you will know for certain that your dentist approves of the treatment, and that is probably a safe bet for your teeth.

The trouble with teeth whitening strips are that they can be compared to white washing a fence on one side only. If you only white wash the fence on the side facing the road, you will have an uneven color, as the sides of the individuals planks can be seen from the road as well, and it is unsightly when you are looking at it from the other side. Sure the front of the fence is clean, but what about the rest. Likewise with your teeth. If you are only interested in whitening the front, you can certainly use strips, but you may have some issues with the crevices between your teeth that will make your smile look uneven. The solution is to continue to brush and definitely floss every day to keep the crevices between your teeth look even with the fronts.
Teeth Whitener Strips are another product that can certainly improve your smile. It is a relatively new method, in which the user places the strips over the teeth and then leaves them in for a proscribed treatment time. Once that elapses, they can be removed and disposed of. Teeth Whitener strips contain hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent on one side, which has a double effect of cleansing the teeth from certain bacteria. They have a great effect, if you are simply maintaining your teeth, but if you want to whiten your teeth drastically, a gel system would work better.
The advantage of strips over trays is that the strips leave comparably less mess, and the bleaching agent is already in the strips, so you don’t have to worry about putting too much or too little on your teeth. In short, teeth whitening strips are great if you are interested in whitening your teeth in a less drastic sense, or if you would like to perform touch ups every six months or so.

There are two different types of teeth whitening systems.
First, you can schedule an appointment with a dentist for a teeth bleaching in-office session. This is often costly, but it is, in some cases, safer and more effective than the alternative. Usually, a laser whitening tool or a gel treatment are the types of systems that the dentist uses for whitening his patient’s smile. However, this is costly, when you consider the fact that you have to take off from work or classes, get to the dentist’s office and get your teeth whitened for an hour or two. While the result will most likely be effective and safe, it is hard to take care of your smile with a busy lifestyle. The result will be good, because not only does a dentist have a license to maintain that may be damaged by complaints against him, but he may not get recommended highly by his patient if the whitening is not up to par, so his reputation is at stake as well.

The alternative is to go with a DIY home-teeth whitening system. In this method, one of many teeth bleaching ingredients can be used, in a low concentration, worn over a length of time. Hydrogen Peroxide is used in teeth whitening strips, while a different bleaching agent is used in trays. Alternatively, there are pens, washes, and other methods to use. The method that you choose is based on your lifestyle and the degree of whitening you want. If you need a drastically whiter smile, try teeth whitening bleaches and trays. If you want something that will do a less drastic job, or need to have the freedom of moving your mouth, try out teeth whitening strips. Of course if you feel like you need something you can take on the go, a teeth whitening pen is the best bet for you!
However, if you have any questions about the safety of a chemical that is used in a teeth whitener, then ask a professional!

There are a variety of DIY in-home products that can be used to whiten teeth. Teeth whitening products come in a variety of methods, based on application procedures. This can range anywhere from gels to toothpastes to pens.

- With a gel, you can start seeing results in one to three weeks. It often involves a tray to apply the whitener. Of course, there is a mess involved at times. It also limits the use of your mouth and keeps you from speaking, chewing, or moving your jaw for a specified amount of time.
- With a whitening toothpaste, you will start seeing results in about 1-2 weeks. Whitening toothpastes are applied as you brush your teeth 2-3 times per day, and offer a lasting smile as long as the same ingredient is used. Toothpastes have the disadvantages of not being a very strong teeth whitener, as it’s primary purpose is to keep your teeth clean and have less germs, and not necessarily to remove stains.
- A more expensive option is strips, which are coated on one side with hydrogen peroxide and can clean teeth very well. Of course, the issues with teeth whitening strips involve the fact that it primarily focuses on the front of the teeth, and not on the crevices in between teeth, which can become unevenly discolored with extended use of teeth whitening strips.
- Pens provide a nearly instant white smile, and can be purchased online. It uses much the same ingredients as the other methods, but the results are great. They can be taken on the go with you so that before that important meeting, you can touch up your smile, or after that last cup of coffee, you can make sure that it’s not going to stain your teeth.
When you decide, you should probably consult your dentist to ensure the safety of the chemicals used, whether or not it is right for you after consulting your dental records.

To bleach your teeth from a kit, you would purchase one from a drugstore or an online retailer, or else go to the dentist and ask for a tray from your dentist.
When you get a tray from a dentist, he will probably take a mold of your mouth and form fit a tray based on that mold. This doesn’t have to take very long and could possibly be done while you are in the office. The procedure is an at-home whitening, but is done with dentist indirect supervision, so you have a professional that you can ask questions to.
Of course, there are a great many teeth whitening kits that you can use to make and maintain the brightness of your teeth. These kits may contain a tray that is a one-size fits all type of tray that fits to the general shape of your mouth. It may not be an exact fit, but it will do the trick. You may find these either at the drugstore or online and will usually do a pretty good job.
I have seen a few that guarantee a custom fitted tray, where you send a mold of your teeth back to an online retailer where they shape a whitening tray to your mouth. While this certainly would be effective, there are less expensive ways to get a kit, with a generic-sized tray that when it is warmed in hot water, it will form fit to your mouth. This is a little less expensive and can still give you great results.

Drugstores often have one or two different kits for purchase. These are usually brand name kits from oral hygiene manufacturers that stand by their product (that’s not to say that some online retailers won’t!). So a drugstore is always a good place to check out, if you only want to try out big name kits.

A vast majority of laser teeth whitening actually contains no laser, but actually falls under the category of “light activated teeth whitening”. While these devices can come at a cost, they are effective in whitening your smile. Whether or not it is COST effective is another thing entirely, as it is usually more expensive than the alternative DIY in-home whiteners such as trays, strips, and pens; but if it is used too much, it may result in “overwhitening.”
There are some well known light activated or “laser” teeth whitening systems that use different types of lights and gases to whiten teeth.
-
BriteSmile ® – Gas plasma / light emitting diode.
- Zoom! ™ – Metal halide light.
- LaserSmile ™ – A Biolase ® laser
- LumaCool ™ – Halogen light.
- Sapphire ™ – Plasma arc light
- Beyond ™ – Halogen light.
- Rembrandt ® – Plasma arc light

Zoom is a product that is often reviewed in terms of laser teeth whitening. Zoom has a little bit more sensitivity in the system, allowing it to do a bit of a better job than BriteSmile. In 2006, Zoom’s parent company actually purchased BriteSmile, but the product still is in drugstores. Both do a great job in brightening your smile and whitens like a charm. If you are considering purchasing this device, consider the cost as well as how much you are going to use it. Is it just for touch ups, or is it for a daily teeth whitening to make your mouth glow?
It would be more cost effective to use it for more than one person, however, if you intend to do this, remember to clean the device well before you pass it along. It may seem unusual to share teeth whitening treatments, but since there is no actual contact with the mouth, it may be a little better of an idea than it sounds.
